Moon River Brewing Company is housed in the former City Hotel, which was built in 1821. While it was the first hotel in Savannah, it was also home to the first branch of the United States Post Office in the city, as well as a branch of the Bank of the United States. While the use for the structure changed over the years, it was closed by Hurricane David in 1979, and sat empty until 1995 when it was renovated into its current configuration as a brew pub. The Moon River Brewing Company debuted in this space on April of 1999, offering a comfortable and relaxing environment for friends and family to enjoy freshly crafted beers and food. The kitchen provides a diverse range of dishes, from simple comfort foods to eclectic gourmet cuisine, including Moon River crab cakes, fried green tomatoes, baby back ribs, blackened tilapia, Malay shrimp satay, and filet mignon. While there's a full bar of drink options for guests, it's the recently brewed beers that will intrigue, such as the Swamp Fox IPA, The Captains Porter, and the Wild Wacky Wit, an old style Belgian wheat-ale, spiced with Curacao bitter orange peel and coriander.
